Last week, I showed you the clothes that I sewed our son during the sewing weekend in October, today I will show you what I sewed our daughters. When we made the pictures, my son was in a surprisingly good picture mood, so he will turn up a few times today as well. This blog post is picture heavy, especially compared to the amount of words. All these clothes were created with patterns that were at least once on the blog already, and the I believe our middle daughter wears about the 20th Domi that I sewed, so I have not much to tell you about these items. Vorige week kwam zoonlief voorbij in al zijn wilde long sleeves, vandaag is het aan de dochters om te showen wat ik voor hen naaide in oktober. Toen we de foto's maakte, allemaal aan een stuk, was zoonlief in een verrassend goede bui. Hij komt dus ook vandaag enkele keren voorbij. de blogpost van vandaag is voornamelijk foto en relatief weinig tekst. Alle kleren werden genaaid met patronen die al vaker op de blog voorbij komen. Zo naaide ik voor onze middelste dochter Domi nummer 20 denk ik. Mocht je toch vragen hebben aan het einde, kan je die in de comments altijd stellen.
After I sewed that Orbis for our son, I had a good amount of fabric left and I cut a hacked Foliis* for our middle daughter. I cut the front pieces at the selvage in an attempt to create a neatly finished bolero without closure option. It did not work out exactly as I had in mind (as is sometimes the case with experiments), so after the shoot I added one single snap to connect the pieces at the neckline (like with the Aura*). After sewing these two bunny pieces there still was good amount of fabric left, and she cut a sleeve for this awesome color blocked dress.
Nadat ik die konijnen Orbis naaide voor onze zoon knipte ik ook een gehackte Foliis* uit dezelfde stof. Het was een experiment. Ik knipte de voorkanten aan de zelfkant van de stof in een poging om een netjes afgewerkte bolero te hebben, zonder sluiting. Zoals het wel vaker is met experimenten, was het geen onverdeeld succes en ik zette na deze shot toch maar een drukknoopje middenvoor net als bij de Aura*. Na de twee konijnenprojecten was er nog steeds behoorlijk wat stof over en kon ook zij een mouw knippen voor deze geweldig leuke jurk.
I wrote it before, our middle daughter loves the Domi*, so I sewed her a candy version during the weekend. I clearly developed a love for striped knit rib fabric, and this candy fabric combined lovely with this double pink striped rib knit. A few weeks after our sewing weekend, when I sewed this giraffe Regina, I made a Giraffe Domi from the remnants. It is such a grateful pattern.
Ik schreef al eerder dat onze middelste dochter verzot is op het Domi* patroon. Ik naaide tijdens het naaiweekend daarom deze snoepjes Domi. De snopejes stof combineerde geweldig leuk met die dubbel roze gestreepte boordstof. Gestreepte boordstof is tegenwoordig mijn nieuwste verslaving. Toen ik enkele weken na het naaiweekend deze giraffen Regina naaide, knipte ik ook nog maar eens een Domi uit de restjes.. Het is zo'n dankbaar patroon.
After cutting that candy Domi, I sewed a Nivalis tunic* from the remnants. I did not have enough to cut long sleeves, but I found this over-the-top pink fluff in the "free for all" pile and I just love the result. She always gets compliments about this top when she wears it.
Nadat ik die snoepjes Domi knipte, knipte ik een Nivalis tuniekje* uit de restjes. Ik had niet genoeg voor lange mouwen, maar in combinatie met deze roze teddy stof uit de "ruilstapel werd het een zeer succesvol geheel. Ze krijgt altijd complimenten over het tuniekje als ze hem aan heeft.
When you are sewing with remnants, sewing small dresses is often the best type of project. I therefore also made our youngest two dresses from the free for all pile. This blue dress is a heavily hacked Nivalis and the color blocked dress is a hacked Simple Dress.
Als je met restjes naait, dan is het naaien van kleine kleren altijd handig. Onze jongste werd dus duidelijk weer extra goed bedeelt met stoffen uit de ruilstapel. Ze kreeg deze blauwe glitter jurk, hiervoor hackte ik de Nivalis en naaide ik een gecolorblockte Simple Dress uit vele kleine leuke stofjes.
I also sewed two pieces for our eldest, but she did come last this sewing weekend. I created a glitter high low tunic with the ADVT *as base. The Art Gallery owl fabric was from her stash originally. The last project that I sewed during the weekend is a good example of too much of a good thing. I also sometimes go overboard on my fabric combinations. She gave the good example of also showing the projects that can be considered a "fail". Well, this Orbis for our eldest is definitely too much even for me, but my daughter does not agree. She gladly wears it, and I believe she even has worn it too school...
Ten slotte naaide ik ook nog twee stuks voor onze oudste dochter. Ik naaide een glitter hoog-laag tuniek door de ADVT* te hacken. De Art Gallery uilen stof kwam uit haar voorraad. Als laatste naaide ik ook nog een gecolorblockte Orbis. En tja... ook bij mij gaat het wel eens fout en net als zij schaam ik me daar niet voor. De stoffen combi en stoffenplaatsing is ook voor mij te veel van het goede, maar ach dochterlief vond het prima. Ik geloof dat hij zelfs ook al eens aan ging naar school.

I had two missions when I went on sewing weekend in October. I wanted to sew the Christmas clothes with the Michael Miller fabric hat I received through Sewing Portfolio's and I wanted to sew winter stuff for my son. My son has been having a growth spurt and he was in a need of long sleeves and trousers. Since this blog post I had been planning to sew him an Orbis, and during the sewing weekend I finally did. I also took the ADVT pattern* from Sofilantjes and sewed three crazy color blocked shirts.
Ik ging met twee duidelijke plannen op naaiweekend in oktober. Ik wilde die kerstkleren naaien en mijn zoon had winter spullen nodig. Hij had een behoorlijk groeispurt en daardoor een grote behoefte aan broeken en long sleeves. Sinds deze blogpost plande ik al een Orbis voor hem, en tijdens het oktober naaiweekend kwam het er dan eindelijk van. Daarnaast gebruikte ik het ADVT* patroon van Sofilantjes voor drie gecolorblockte shirts.
Two years ago, I made him this bear shirt,
but that one became quickly to small. I still had enough fabric left to
make him the same shirt in a bigger size, but I did not feel like it. I
was planing to donate both fabrics to the free for all, but I ended up
keeping it myself. I used a French Terry remnant inside out to create
fluffy shoulder piece. The triangle fabric that I used for one of the Rugam skirts really made the combination different than the first shirt.
Twee jaar geleden naaide ik voor hem dit beren shirt,
wat redelijk snel te klein was. Ik had stof genoeg om een exacte copy
te maken, maar ja, dat is niks voor mij. Het is zo niks voor mij dat ik
de stofresten doneerde aan de ruilstapel. Op de tweede dag van het
weekend, terwijl ik door de stapel ging kwam ik ze weer tegen en besloot
ze dan maar zelf te verwerken. Ik combineerde ze met een restje van de
stof waar ik een Rugam mee naaide en een stukje French Terry binnenste buiten voor de zachte schouder. Zeer geslaagd vind ik zelf.
The Orbis* is clearly a great success. I bought the fabric at Textielstad and it has a white fluffy inside so it makes a perfect winter Orbis. It makes the ultimate "soft" trousers that my son loves. I also bought the fabric in grey and sewed him a Domi, which might also once end up on the blog. For the pockets I used a sturdy knit from the free for all pile. In our house blue combines with everything even it is has a bunny print, so they way my son shows his shirts today, that is also how he wears them to school. He really loves those huge pockets, he is not a collector but he loves to put his hands into them.
De Orbis* was meteen een groot succes. De zakken van de Orbis vindt hij helemaal geweldig, hij is geen verzamelaar, maar hij vind het heerlijk om zijn handen er diep in te steken. Ik maakte hem van stof die ik bij Textielstad kocht die een dikke zachte achterkant heeft. Een ideale winterbroek dus. Ik kocht de stof een paar weken later in grijs/wit en dat werd een Domi. Voor de zakken van de Orbis gebruikte ik een restje uit de ruilstapel, heerlijk concept vind ik nog steeds. de kleur blauw wordt in ons huis overal mee gecombineerd, ook al staan er konijnen op. De manier hoe zoonlief vandaag de shirts presenteert is dus ook hoe hij naar school gaat.
This Minion fabric came from Davina. There actually would have been enough fabric to cut an entire shirt from, but I just love color blocking. My son likes glitter and flowers but he sometimes fears it would be to "girly". In this glittery cherry remnant that I used on the sleeves, I saw the perfect color block with the minions. I told my son that the peaches look like minion butts and of course he loved the combination and explanation. The glitter cherry fabric also has a soft inside, so that also contributed to him loving glitter peaches on his shirt.
De Minion stof kwam van Davina. Er was genoeg om een heel shirt van te knippen, maar ik ging toch voor een color block, puur en alleen omdat ik dat leuker vond. Ik had namelijk in de ruilstapel ook een stukje blauwe stof met glitter kersen erop gevonden. Ja, ik begrijp het als dat voor jou niet meteen, "jongensstof" schreeuwt, maar ik wist dat het perfect zou zijn voor die zoon van mij. Hij is stiekem dol op bloemen en glitters, maar hij heeft wel het liefst een shirt wat anderen niet voor een meisjes shirt aan zouden zien. Deze glinsterende kersen vond ik dus echt op minionbillen lijken en hij was het met me eens. Het kan ook zijn dat hij vooral de achterkant van de blauwe stof zacht vond, maar hij is heel tevreden met het shirt.
The last shirt that I am showing you today the wildest of them all and not just because it has tigers on them. I combined six different fabrics into one shirt. I really like how it turned out. Yes it is crazy, but it totally fits my son's style. I used her coverlock to topstitch all those seams with golden thread. Most of these fabrics' were donated to the pile by her, thanks again Davina!
Het laatste shirt dat ik vandaag laat zien is het gekste shirt dat ik dat weekend naaide (niet het gekste project, maar daarover andere keer meer). Ik combineerde zes verschillende stoffen door middel van rechte lijnen en gebruikte haar coverlock om een mooi gouden sierstiksel aan te brengen. De meeste van deze stoffen kwamen wederom uit haar restvoorraad, bedankt weer Davina!
You know that I prefer knit over woven and you know that I have taken a step back from testing, but sometimes you have to make an exception to all your rules. Today's dress is the result on such an exception. When Elegance and Elephants posted their testing call last year, I just had to apply. The color block on the front, the no-closure fit and puff sleeves made me lose all reason.
The Flora has three color block options, three sleeve lengths and is available in dress and tunic length, making the dress perfect for any season or event. Due to the low back scoop there is no zipper needed to get the dress over your daughter's head. The puff sleeves are adorable and make dressing in this no-closure dress easier (more room to get the arms in the sleeves).
De Flora heeft drie verschillende color block opties voor de voorkant, er zijn drie mouwlengtes en je kan hem maken in tuniek of jurk lengte. Het patroon is dus perfect voor het hele jaar en alle gelegenheden. Door een lage uitsnijding van de nek kan de jurk zo over het hoofd, en kan je dochter zichzelf aankleden. De pofmouwen zijn super schattig en maken het aankleden makkelijk omdat er extra ruimte is bij de schouder.
I am not a 100% satisfied with my combination of fabrics for this dress. I took the main fabric from the "free for all" pile from our latest sewing weekend. The daughter of Sabrina went from a color addiction to a black and white lover and this cute dark pink flower fabric had to go. My pink lover was of course over the moon with this fabric and she was happy with any other pink addition. For me the contrast with the bodice color (Cloud 9 fabric) turned out a bit off. My daughter obviously loves the entire thing, so I do not really mind. The next one will be in one fabric, the pretty examples of the listing easily convinced me of that.
Ik ben niet 100% tevreden met de stoffen combi die ik koos. De hoofdstof, die donkere roze kwam van onze "gratis winkel" tijdens ons laatste naaiweekend in oktober. De dochter van Sabrina ging van kauwgombal voorkeur naar zwart-wit liefhebber en daardoor moesten er bepaalde stoffen wijken. Mijn roze fan vond dat helemaal niet erg en zij vindt dat zachtere roze (Cloud 9 fabrics) erbij geweldig. Ikzelf denk dat het achteraf mooier was geweest om alles in dezelfde stof te houden, maar dat realiseerde ik me pas nadat ik de andere test versies zag. De jurk schreeuwde voor mij color block, maar zo leuk om door andermans versies te zien, je zelf weer extra inspiratie krijgt voor een volgend project.
Last October, we had the 2017 second edition of our sewing weekend and I posted my projects of that weekend on Instagram (and that picture even made itself into my Best9). In a month, we will go on the first weekend of 2018. Although, now that the kids are bigger, I can sew at home while they are awake, those sewing weekends create peak production (last time I think I put in 20 hours of just sewing in one weekend). This means that after such weekends I have several unblogged projects that sometimes seem to never reach the blog. Today's post is about the last set of clothes from February that I had not shown you yet. I sewed several pieces of underwear, and in the weeks after, I sewed some more that I also added to this post.
Afgelopen oktober hadden we het tweede naaiweekend van 2017 en ik plaatste toen een foto van mijn productie op Instagram (en die foto kwam zelfs in mijn best9 terecht). Volgende maand gaan we al weer op de eerste editie van 2018. Hoewel ik ondertussen thuis best veel kan naaien als de kinderen wakker zijn, is er toch duidelijk een productieberg in zo'n naaiweekend. Ik deed een snelle grove schatting en denk dat ik ongeveer 20 uur effectieve naaitijd had in oktober. Dat betekent ook dat sommige projecten de blog (bijna) niet halen omdat er elke weer iets anders tussen komt. Vandaag, dus dan eindelijk de laatste projecten die ik nog niet blogde van het naaiweekend van februari.
From the sewing weekend projects that I did show, several pieces were made from scraps remnants that where exchanged during the weekend. This ballet suit's fabric was from the same pile. The outer fabric is the most intriguing jersey that I ever saw. It has splots of thick glitter paint on it. Katrien just had a small piece left, but it was enough to squeeze a body suit out of it. I actually lined it with one of her scraps, but that is not visible of course. This picture is now almost a year old, and you know how it goes with these small kids. The suit therefore already moved out of our home (and into hers). The pattern is the Alley Cat from Lil Luxe patterns.
Van de projecten van het februari weekend was een groot gedeelte met restjes uit de "ruil" stapel. Van dit balletpakje komen zowel de buiten en binnenkant uit die stapel. De buitenkant is een van de meeste bijzonder tricot's die ik ooit zag. het heeft dikke vlekken van glitterverf op zich. Het kleine stukje dat Katrien over had was precies genoeg voor dit pakje en ik voerde het met een licht stofje wat zij aan de stapel doneerde. Deze foto's zijn dus al bijna een jaar oud en omdat deze kleintjes groeien is het pakje ondertussen verhuisd naar haar huis. Het patroon is de Alley Cat van Lil Luxe patronen .
From my own scraps, I sewed two pieces of underwear, a size 3 and a size 4 for my son. It is the Suat boxer pattern, and I was not sure which size was best for him. Therefore, I sewed two different sizes to find out. I sewed many, many more a few weeks later. Here is that extra collection that also contains some pieces for my eldest daughter. I really like the pattern (and used it here as well), and it will definitely go with me on the next sewing edition. If you need plans to sew with smaller remnants pieces, underwear is a perfect project.
Van mijn eigen restjes naaide ik twee Suat boxers voor mijn zoon. Ik maakte twee verschillende maten omdat ik niet wist welke het beste zou passen. Ik was zeer tevreden over het patroon en naaide een paar weken na het weekend nog vele extra's (ook gebruikte ik het patroon voor deze post). In deze collectie zie je ook versies voor onze oudste dochter. Het patroon gaat ook zeker mee op de volgende editie van het naaiweekend. Dit ondergoed is echt perfect om restjes mee te verwerken.
The last piece of underwear that I sewed during that sewing weekend was a bralette for myself. I used the free pattern by George and Ginger. I squeezed it out of a remnant from when I made this dress. But the bralette actually required a bit more fabric than I anticipated so I ended up with a color block on the back.I am used to wearing under wire bra's so the bra felt a bit too "sport bra"to me. The fit is nice, but I had to get used to it a bit. For sure I will take a decreased version of this with me for the next edition to make some for my eldest daughter.
Het laatste ondergoed stuk is deze "bralette"(zo heet het in het Engels en ik heb geen idee hoe je zoiets in het Nederlands zegt). I gebruikte het gratis patroon van George en Ginger. Ik maakte het van een eigen restjes van toen ik deze jurk naaide. Ik had verrassend veel stof nodig dus ik maakte een color block op de rug. Hij past perfect, maar omdat ik gewend ben aan bh's met beugel voelt het toch iets te veel sport bh voor mij. Maar mogelijk moet ik gewoon nog wennen. Ik neem een verkleinde versie van het patroon mee op de volgende editie om een paar van deze voor de oudste dochter te naaien.
I already told you in my previous post, December was super busy, and blogging was the thing that had to go. Fortunatly, I did not let go of sewing (it relaxes me) and last month, I sewed four Regina's* (besides some other sewing), the newest pattern of Sofilantjes*. As you can understand from the name, a dress fit for a queen.
In mijn vorige post schreef ik al dat het erg druk van in december, zo druk dat het bloggen even moest blijven liggen. Gelukkig hoefde dat niet voor mijn naaiprojecten. Die zorgen immers voor ontlading van stress. Aan het einde van het jaar naaide ik (onder andere) vier Regina* jurken, het nieuwste patroon van Sofilantjes*. Zoals je vast wel begrijpt uit de naam, is het een jurk gemaakt voor koninklijke dames.
Seeing as I made four dresses already, it is clear that I once again adore the pattern. It has several features that I love. First, the pleated sleeve. I am a sucker for pleats (in jersey) or other 3D effects and those cute pleats on the front of the sleeves make a very cute detail. In the short term I already foresee a slightly hacked version with pleats on both sides of the sleeve. The pleats are most visible in a uni colored fabric, but they look great on a printed fabric as well. The pattern also includes a regular sleeve, in case you do not have enough fabric (which is why the giraffe version has regular sleeves).
Gezien het feit dat het patroon hier al vier maal onder de naaimachine lag, kan je wel zeggen dat ik wederom helemaal fan ben. Het patroon het verscheidene elementen die mij erg blij maken. ten eerst wil ik het hebben over die geplooide mouw! Ik ben dol op 3D effect in tricot, plooien, rimpels etc. De Regina mouw heeft twee kleine plooien aan de voorzijde die naar mijn idee een super schattig detail op leveren. Ik voorzie voor de korte termijn ook een hackje waar de mouw ook plooien krijgt aan de achterkant. De plooien komen het duidelijkste uit in een effen stof, maar ook in de printjes die ik gebruikte zijn ze erg leuk. Het patroon bevat ook een reguliere mouw. Smaken verschillen immers en zo kon ik precies nog twee mouwen knippen uit de giraffen stof, die mouwen zijn namelijk net iets kleiner.
The pattern comes with two skirts that fit the Solis/Litore/Montis. There is an all-round pleated version (the Solis skirt has a partial pleated skirt) and a gathered circle skirt. The latter one now competes with the high low skirt from the Litore over being my favorite skirt option. My girls love a good twirl and with a gathered circle skirt they can almost literately twirl their socks of. Both the giraffe and glitter dress have a pleated skirt. The pleats are best visible in a fabric that does not have much drape. That is why the giraffe dress's pleats look better than the glitter one. With drapey fabric I would advise a circle (Solis) or the double circle skirt.
De Regina komt met twee rokken en de taille past op de rokken van de Solis, Litore en Montis. De eerste nieuwe rok heeft rondom plooien (de Solis heeft gedeeltelijke plooien) en de tweede is een gerimpelde cirkel rok. Die gerimpelde cirkel rok mag nu strijden met de hoog-laag rok van de Litore over het zijn van mijn persoonlijke lievelingsrok. Mijn dochters houden van echte dansjurken en deze gerimpelde cirkelrok is echt de koningin van de zwier. De giraffen jurk en de glitter jurk voorzag ik van een plooien rok, maar het patroon komt het mooiste uit in de giraffen versie. De glitter stof is eigenlijk te soepel en de plooien hangen daardoor een beetje vreemd. Voor soepele stof zou ik dus de cirkelrok aanraden.
The Regina has a boatlike neckline and the front and back bodice pieces are the same. This means that after cutting your bodice pieces you can still choose which print placement makes the prettiest front. The neckline is finished with a jersey band, so you no not have to find a complementing ribbing color. Another advantage of a similar front and back is that of you have regular sleeves and but the seam of the neckband at the shoulder, the dress can never be backwards on your child. The same advantage as the Silva pattern. The dress in is unlined, so if you have a girls that sweats easily, this also makes a perfect summer dress.
De Regina heeft een boothals en de voor en achterkant van het lijfje worden geknipt met hetzelfde patroondeel. Heel handig dat je dus na het knippen nog kan besluiten waar de stof het mooiste is voor de voorkant. De hals wordt afgewerkt met een strip tricot, dus je hoeft geen bijpassende boordstof te zoeken. het lijfje is ongevoerd, dus dit maakt ook een ideale zomerjurk. Omdat de voor en achterkant dus hetzelfde zijn, is aankleden (als je reguliere mouw gebruikt) extra handig als je de naad van de halsboord op de schouder zet. Zo is er geen voor en achterkant, net als bij de Silva.
When I was writing this post, I realized that coincidentally all four of these fabric were bought at Textielstad and they are from four different trips 9al in 2017...). Last year, I started with administrating how much fabric went out (and sometimes in) my stash. Unfortunately, I am not that good in keeping up these kind of organized routines, so after four months I stopped. This year I do not have any special plans on how to decrease the stash, but I feel I am doing fine at the moment, I feel at least my stash is not growing. I did gift myself another Bobbinhood kit (a bigger one) and I actually plan to print fabrics, instead of buying prints. This means that the uni colored fabrics in my stash are more versatile and a smaller stash should be a logical result (right?).
Toen ik deze post aan het schrijven was realiseerde ik me dat al deze stoffen van Textielstad komen en ook nog eens van vier verschillende bezoekjes. Vorige jaar startte ik met zeer georganiseerde plannen om bij te houden hoeveel stof ik verwerkte (en ik aan mijn voorraad toevoegde). In het begin ging dat prima, maar na een paar maanden verloor ik de interesse in het bijhouden. Ik ben niet zo goed in structuur. Dit jaar maakte ik niet zozeer specifieke plannen om de voorraad te verminderen. Het gaat eigenlijk best goed, het groeit in ieder geval niet meer (geloof ik). Ik gaf mezelf nog wel een extra groot zeefdrukraam van Bobbinhood cadeau in december. Ik wil meer werken met effen stoffen en dus zelf een print erop zetten. Die effen stoffen zijn dan heel universeel en daardoor zou ik van zelf een kleine voorraad moeten krijgen, toch...?
