Foras dress release

Color blocked jersey dresses are my favorite sewing projects, if you feel the same, you will love the new Sofilantjes pattern, the Foras*. The Foras is a dropped waist relaxed fitting dress with two skirt options. One with a circle skirt, the other gathered skirt. The pattern is made for pockets lovers. The pockets that fall  perfectly in line with the color block in the bodice. But, you can very easily not make pockets and have a nice basic drop waisted dress. Today, I am showing you two of the four dresses that I sewed with this pattern, one with circle skirt and one with gathered skirt.

Jullie weten het al lang, maar mijn hart gaat sneller slaan van jurkpatronen in tricot met color block. Mocht jij dezelfde (veilige) afwijking hebben, dan word je vast ook blij van het nieuwe patroon van Sofilantjes, de Foras*. De Foras is een jurk met een verlaagde taille en een relaxte fit. Perfect voor fijne zomerdagen, spelend op het het strand, maar ook heel passend in de winter met een extra hemd eronder. Het patroon heeft twee rok opties, een cirkelrok en en gerimpelde rok. Het patroon is gemaakt voor mensen die van zakken houden. De zakken vallen perfect in lijn met de gecolorblockte zijdes. Maar als jij nou geen zakliefhebber bent, dan laat je ze ook super makkelijk achterwege. Vandaag laat ik jullie twee van de vier Forassen zien die ik naaide de afgelopen weken, eentje met cirkelrok en eentje met gerimpelde rok.

The side color block is an easy sew. If you are a beginner just clip or pin the color block in, and it should line up perfectly. Those side panels really adds to the design on the dress, because of the color block options. On one hand those side panels are perfect for using some treasured scraps. On the other hand, the side panels make the front bodice relatively narrow, which make it perfect for all kind of small panels. The pattern comes with three sleeve lengths, long, 3/4 and short sleeves. The long sleeves have a long cuff, which gives some extra color block options.

Het zijpaneel is perfect voor beginners, het geeft duidelijk wat extra's aan je jurk en het naait heel makkelijk. Mocht je color blocks een beetje eng vinden, deze zachte curve naait even makkelijk als een zijnaad. De zijpanelen zelf zelf zeer geschikt om mooie restjes in te verwerken, van die smalle stukken die je vaak overhoudt. Door de zijpanelen is het midden stuk van het lijfje wat smaller dan normaal, dus ook dat maakt andere smalle stukken, zoals een laatste stukje van een paneel perfect voor deze jurk. Het patroon komt met drie mouwopties, lang, 3/4 en kort. De lange mouwen worden gevormd door lang mouwboorden. Hierdoor is de jurk extra warm in de winter en het geeft weer leuke opties tot stoffen combi's.

The first dress that I made is the black velvety dress for our eldest, that Fabric comes from Textielstad. Recently, when I just went to buy a rol knive, I bought at Textielstad some awesome new striped ribbings (my current obsession) that perfectly match the jersey that they sold as well. That means that for the black dress, the pockets are in jersey and the neckband is ribbing. For the other dress, the bunny one (The fabric is from Joyfits), I clearly did not use ribbing for the neckline, so although it is nice and stretchy fabric, I did add about two centimeter to the length of the neckband to avoid a pulling neckline.

De eerste Foras die ik naaide is die zwarte velours-achtige jurk, de stof haalde ik bij Textielstad. Recentelijk toen ik alleen even een vulling voor mijn rolmes ging halen, kocht ik bij textielstad tricot strepen jersey met perfect matchende tricot boordstof. De zwarte jurk heeft dus tricot in de zakken, maar wel boordstof bij de hals. De andere jurk, de konijnenversie (die stof kocht ik bij Joyfits), heeft natuurlijk geen boordstof halsboord. De stof is van hele goede kwaliteit, maar toch knipte ik daar voor de zekerheid twee centimeter extra lengte aan het halsboorddeel.

I know that I just wrote that I recently bought new ribbings and matching jersey stripes, but I am really trying to not buy new fabric. Every time I sit in front of my fabric closet I feel that the good fabrics are gone (although there are piles and piles of fabric), but when I force myself to make something from the piles, I always rediscover some perfect fabrics. I did the same with the bunny fabric. My daughter picked it, and I am now so in love with the combi. I considered making a matching print on the pocket, and even halfy tried, but I decided that I just needed a sewing shot and decided not to be bothered. I glued, cut and sewed the bunny dress in a two hour break that I had before the kids came home from school. I was really craving from creative endeavor. The joy that I felt after finishing the dress was similar as I would have been to a Spa for the entire day, which really shows that sewing is cheaper than therapy.

Ik weet dat ik net nog vertelde over de nieuwe stof die ik kocht, maar ik doe dus echt een poging om geen stoffen meer te kopen. Als ik voor mijn stoffenkast zit is mijn eerste gevoel altijd dat alle leuke stoffen op zijn, hoewel er stof genoeg ligt. Maar als ik mezelf forceer en gewoon iets pak van de stapel, dan vind ik toch altijd weer super leuke dingen. De konijnen stof is er ook zo een. Ik maakte er al een Mantica mee. Ik had nog veel over, maar ik zag het even niet zitten met de print, leuke dan in die Mantica kon ik me hem niet voorstellen. Dochterlief koos de stof zelf van de stapel en ik combineerde hem met een schuine streep en ik ben zo blij met de jurk! Ik dacht er nog even over om te zorgen dat de streep perfect zou overlopen op de zak, ik deed ook een halfslachtige poging, maar ik vind het prima dat het niet uitkwam. Ik naaide de jurk van patroon plakken tot zomen in ongeveer twee uur. Een momentje helemaal alleen thuis voordat de school uit was. Ik kreeg er evenveel energie van als een dag naar sauna, dus het is echt waar dat naaien goedkoper is dan therapie.
