Last month, the Risu dress pattern released. During the release post, I showed you the two straight Risu's that I sewed. The Risu has the same waist as the Solis, Montis, Litore etc. This opens up all kind of mix and match options. In this post I am showing you the dresses that I sewed for a wedding that we had in June.
Vorige maand werd het Risu-patroon uitgebracht. Tijdens de lanceringspost, liet ik de twee recht-toe-recht-aan Risu's zien die ik naaide. De Risu heeft dezelfde taille als de Solis, Montis, Litore enz. Dit creeert allerlei mix- en matchopties. In deze post komen jurken aan bod die ik naaide voor een bruiloft die we in juni hadden.
Let's start off with twirl. For the dress of our youngest I combined the Risu bodice with the Solis full circle skirt. The Hilco fabric that I bought on sale at Joyfits was the perfect match for the circle skirt. The picture is printed two ways on the fabric and this worked very well with a circle skirt that turns images on the side of the skirt sideways. I put one of the images central on the front and am super excited about the whole look of this dress.
Laten we beginnen met zwier. Voor de jurk van onze jongste combineerde ik het Risu-lijfje met de Solis cirkelrok. De Hilco-stof die ik bij Joyfits kocht was de perfecte match voor de cirkelrok. De afbeelding is in tweerichtingen op de stof gedrukt en dit werkte heel goed met een cirkelrok die afbeeldingen draait langs de zijkant van de rok. Ik zette een van de afbeeldingen centraal op de voorkant en ben super enthousiast over het totaal plaatje van deze jurk.
Our eldest got an Art gallery fabric from Joyfits, blue is her favorite color. I made her a size 12 on the child chart. I first made this flower dress and after that I realized that I might have to move to the women chart. The dress still fits perfectly, that is why I love sewing with jersey, but taking her developing body into account is better for the long term. After I sewed this flower dress I therefore sewed these much earlier posted teen dresses.
Onze oudste greeg een Art gallery stofje van Joyfits, blauw is haar favoriete kleur. Ik maakte een maat 12 uit de kindertabel voor haar. Ik maakte eerst deze bloemenjurk en toen besefte ik dat ik misschien naar de vrouwentabel moet overstappen. De jurk past nog steeds perfect, daarom houd ik van naaien met jersey, maar rekening houdend met haar groei is beter om te experimenteren met de tabeltabel. Direct nadat ik deze bloemenjurk naaide maakte ik daarom deze veel eerder geposte tienerjurken.
Last month the 20th season of Project Run and Play took place! A while ago Project Run and play decided to create a web shop for patterns that the contestants used. Anne from Sofilantjes participated this season and besides the Risu that released last week, she also used, the Foliis in her look. Both will now be part of the Project Run and Play shop and to celebrate, I created three garments with the Foliis pattern.
Vorige maand vond de 20ste seizoen van Project Run and Play plaats! Een tijdje geleden opende Project Run and play een webshop voor patronen die door de deelnemers werden gebruikt. Anne van Sofilantjes nam deel aan dit seizoen en naast de Risu die vorige week werd uitgebracht, gebruikte ze ook de Foliis in haar outfits. Beide zullen nu deel uitmaken van de Project run en de Playshop en om dat te vieren naaide ik weer drie kledingstukken met het Foliis patroon.
I sewed the Foliis trifecta, all three options, when the pattern was released, and I thought that it would be nice to again sew several garments to show the versatility of the pattern. The Foliis can be used to sew a short jacket, a long jacket or a dress, all three with a hood. The pattern comes with long sleeves and 3/4 sleeves.
Ik naaide de Foliis trifecta, alle drie de opties, toen het patroon werd gelanceerd, en ik dacht dat het leuk zou zijn om opnieuw verschillende kledingstukken te naaien om de veelzijdigheid van het patroon te laten zien. De Foliis kan worden gebruikt om een kort jasje, een lang jasje of een jurk te naaien, alle drie met een capuchon. Het patroon komt met lange mouwen en 3/4 mouwen.
Our middle one loves jackets and with Dutch summer it is great to have layer options. The long jacket is straight from the pattern, I did not make any changes. It has pockets and the outside is super soft, so of course she did not want to take it off after she tried it on.
Onze middelste houdt van vestjes en met Nederlandse zomer zijn zulke laagopties fijn om te hebben. De lange jas is recht van het patroon, ik heb geen wijzigingen aangebracht. Het heeft zakken en de buitenkant is super zacht, dus wilde ze het natuurlijk niet uittrekken nadat ze hem even mocht passen.
The Foliis is designed for heavier fabrics, which especially makes the jacket options stand out more. With my short jacket I did a tiny hack, I made it into a fully reversible garment while using two regular jersey's. This way the jacket gets more texture and has double wearability. I did not change anything with regard to the pattern pieces to make it reversible. The hood is always double, due to reversibility I also cut an extra bodice and sleeve pair. If you add the hood like this you do not have to keep any other turning whole than the one in hood. This clearly will be one of the favorite pieces in her wardrobe.
De Foliis is ontworpen voor zwaardere stoffen, zodat vooral de jasjes beter vallen. Met mijn korte jas deed ik een kleine hack, ik maakte het tot een volledig omkeerbaar kledingstuk met gebruik van twee dunnere jersey's. Op deze manier krijgt het vestje meer textuur en is het dubbel draagbaar is. Ik veranderde niks aan de patroondelen om het omkeerbaar te maken. De capuchon is altijd dubbel, vanwege de omkeerbaarheid knipte ik ook het lijfje en de mouwen dubbel. Als je de kap zo toevoegt, hoef je geen ander keergat te maken dan die in kap .
The last garment that I made is this short dress. Like I wrote before, our middle one strongly prefers vintage length dresses. She often wears them with shorts as well so I kept the dress a bit shorter than the pattern prescribes. I decided not to sew the dress straight from the pattern but to use this hack and to make short sleeves. The hack is super easy, you cut the front bodice on the fold (while removing seam allowance) and add a neckband. I love the contrasting pockets in the dress option. The dress option normally has a zipper in the middle of the bodice which gives even more options for color blocking.
Het laatste kledingstuk dat ik naaide is een korte jurk. Zoals ik eerder schreef, geeft onze middelste de voorkeur aan jurken met vintage lengte. Ze draagt ze vaak ook met korte broeken, dus hield ik de jurk wat kort. Ik besloot de jurk niet recht uit het patroon te naaien, maar deze hack te gebruiken en korte mouwen te maken. De hack is super eenvoudig, je knipt het voorlijf op de vouw (terwijl je de naadtoeslag verwijdert) en voegt een nekband toe. Ik ben dol op de contrasterende zakken in de jurkoptie. De jurk heeft normaal gesproken een ritssluiting in het midden van het lijfje waardoor er nog meer opties voor color blocking zijn.

Today, Sofilantjes releases the Risu dress. The Risu's eye catcher element is the back. It looks great and due to the smart construction it does not fall open. The Risu comes with long sleeves and 3/4 sleeves with a fun color blocking finish and simple hemmed short sleeves. It has a sweet overlap on the front neckline and a skirt that finishes with a wide binding. The stitched on pocket is cool to add some extra contrast.
Vandaag lanceert Sofilantjes de Risu-jurk. De blikvanger van de Risu is de rug. Het ziet er geweldig uit en door de slimme constructie valt het niet open. De Risu komt met lange mouwen en 3/4 mouwen die afgwerkt worden met een leuke color block en eenvoudige omzoomde korte mouwen. Het heeft een liefelijke overlap op de hals aan de voorzijde en een rok die eindigt met een brede boord. De opgestikte zak is perfect om wat extra contrast toe te voegen.

De Risu-taille past op de rokken van de Solis, Litore, Montis en de gerimpelde rok van de Mantica. Dat betekent dat er veel mix- en matchopties zijn. Ik heb al twee van die jurken genaaid, maar die zal ik volgende week showen.
The Risu is a true diva dress, or at least I feel our kids look very serious and grown up in their Risu's. Perfect for fancy occasions, but the skirt is wide enough to play in as well.
De Risu is een echte diva-jurk, of ik vind dat onze kinderen er in hun risu's serieus en volwassen uitzien. Perfect voor speciale gelegenheden, maar de rok is ook wijd genoeg om in te spelen.
I sewed the Risu for our youngest from a remnant after sewing this shirt. I was surprised to see how little fabric I needed for this dress. It really makes a huge difference that the skirt does not twirl. The dress for our middle one is sewn with an Art Gallery fabric that I recently bought at Joyfits.
Ik naaide de Risu voor onze jongste van een restje van toen ik dit shirt naaide. Ik was verrast om te zien hoe weinig stof ik nodig had voor deze jurk. Het maakt echt een groot verschil dat de rok niet zwaait. De jurk voor onze middelste maakte ik met een Art Gallery-stof die ik onlangs bij Joyfits kocht.

Although I can sew a lot and do not mind sewing easy pieces, I also sometimes enjoy buying pieces in a clothing store. Two weeks ago, I went with our eldest and noticed that width wise she fits in the smallest adult pieces (size 34 was even too small!!), but that due to her length the shoulder straps of the sleeveless dresses that we wanted to buy, were way too long. The sleeveless child dresses had an absurdly large armhole and very loose fit, several centimeters of her tank top were showing under her arm.
Hoewel ik heel snel kan naaien en bandwerk ondertussen best lekker vind, vind ik het soms ook leuk om stukken in een kledingwinkel te kopen. Twee weken geleden ging ik met onze oudste en merkte dat ze qua breedte past in de kleinste volwassen stukken (maat 34 was zelfs te smal !!), maar dat vanwege haar lengte de schouderbanden van mouwloze volwassenen jurken veel te lang zijn. De mouwloze kindjurken hadden weer een absurd groot armsgat en een zeer losse pasvorm, enkele centimeters van haar topje waren zichtbaar onder haar arm.
She has reached the phase in between child and adult which I had noticed with my sewing before. Last year, I made her a Solis and ended up having to add darts because the armhole were gaping. She is too developed for a child patterns and too short for adult patterns. Especially, when wearing sleeveless this issues shows, so I decided to try a child/adult blended dress.
Ze zit in de fase tussen kind en volwassene en dat merkte ik ook tijdens het naaien. Vorig jaar naaide ik haar een Solis uiteindelijk moest ik darts toevoegen omdat de armsgaten anders erg gaapte . Ze is te ontwikkeld voor een kinderpatroon en te kort voor patronen voor volwassenen. Vooral bij het dragen van mouwloze stukken worden deze problemen zichtbaar, dus besloot ik om eens tussen kind/ volwassenen in te tekenen.
Adult patterns are tighter than kids' patterns, so even though she did not fully reach the Sofilantjes' adult size table yet, I was curious to see how the smallest adult Sofilantjes would fit on her. I wanted to make her a Vallis and the chest width of the pattern piece of the size twelve was very similar to the smallest adult size, so I took the plugde and blended.
Volwassen patronen zijn strakker dan de patronen van kinderen, dus hoewel ze nog niet in de maattabel voor volwasennen valt bij Sofilantjes, durfde ik wel te kijken hoe de kleinste volwassen Sofilantjes bij haar zou passen. Ik wilde voor haar een Vallis maken en het bleek dat de breedte van kinderpatroon lijfje maat twaalf (haar maat op de kindertabel) behoorlijk overeen komt met de breedte van maatje 34, dus ik printte beide lijfjes en ging "blenden".
I took the adult piece as my base. I kept the shoulders and armcycle of the adult piece exactly the same because the height of the arm cycles seemed similar. I did have to redraw the waist bigger though. The size twelve kids is wider, as can be seen on the size table as well. I used the size twelve waist to determine the needed with of the adult pattern piece. I also used the length of the size twelve bodice to determine the length of the bodice. Because I did not change the arm cycles, I did not have to recalculate the arm bands. I did draw a high back neckline, just because it is slightly more versatile, so I did have to recalculate the neckband. I also raised the front neckline with an inch.
Ik nam het volwassen lijfdeel als mijn basis. Ik hield de schouders en armuitsnijding van het volwassen stuk precies intact. De hoogte van het armsgat leek namelijk ook vergelijkbaar. Ik moest de taille echter wel groter tekenen. Dit is logisch gezien het verschil in de maattabel tussen maat twaalf en 34. Ik gebruikte daarom het maat twaald patroondeel om de taille te verbreden. Ik nam ook de lengte van het lijfje maat twaalf als lengte van mijn geblende patroondeel. Omdat ik de armsgaten niet veranderde, hoefde ik de armboorden niet opnieuw te berekenen. Ik tekende een standaard hoge hals, gewoon omdat het iets meer veelzijdig is, dus ik heb de halsband wel opnieuw moeten berekenen. de hals aan de voorkant verhoogde ik ook twee centimeter.
I started out with a test dress, because I had no clue how it would fit, the bodice of the child pattern is significantly different from the adult pattern. I used a scrap and some matching uni fabric. I used the half circle skirt from the Regina It was a perfect fit, so I immediately sewed a second. One from my recently acquired inspirational fabric pile from Joyfits. So, if your daughter has started to develop and has a chest of 76 cm or more, and you own both the child and adult Vallis, I suggest you also blend. It was easy. Now she has a dress that fits perfectly and does not show her tank top.
Ik begon met een testjurk, omdat ik geen idee had hoe het zou passen, het lijfje van het kindpatroon verschilt significant van het volwassen patroon. Ik gebruikte een restje voor het lijfje en een stuk bijpassende effen stof voor de rok. Als rokdeel nam ik de halve cirkel van de Regina. Het paste perfect, dus naaide ik meteen een tweede. Dit maal een uit mijn recent verworven inspirerende stoffenstapel van Joyfits. Dus, als je dochter vormen begint te krijgen en een borstomtrek heeft van 76 cm of meer en je hebt zowel het kinder als de volwassen Vallispatroon, stel ik voor dat je ook mengt. Het was gemakkelijk. Nu heeft ze een jurk die perfect past en perfect over haar topje valt.
During our sewing weekend, I sewed most pieces for our eldest. She had requested a capsule wardrobe, something similar as our middle daughter got a year ago. Our eldest prefers to wear dresses though, so I had a surprisingly hard time envisioning a capsule wardrobe that would fit her personality. Tunics are not really her style and shirts with trousers neither are her first choice. I have to admit, in the end it became more quantity than quality, but in my defense, she almost had no summer clothes since she is growing extremely quickly, so a perfect balanced wardrobe will have to wait, maybe next winter.
Tijdens ons naaiweekend, naaide ik de meeste stukken voor onze oudste. Ze had om een capsule wardrobe gevraagd, iets vergelijkbaars als onze middelste dochter een jaar geleden kreeg. Onze oudste geeft echter de voorkeur aan jurken, dus ik had verrassend veel moeite om een capsule-wardrobe te bedenken die bij haar persoonlijkheid past. Tunieken zijn niet echt haar stijl en shirts met een broek zijn ook niet haar eerste keuze. Ik moet toegeven dat het uiteindelijk meer kwantiteit dan kwaliteit is geworden, maar ze dan ook eigenlijk bijna geen zomerkleding omdat ze extreem snel groeit, een perfect gebalanceerde garderobe zal moeten wachten, misschien de volgende winter.
The first piece that I sewed was a short blue crop top with long sleeves. Last winter, I sewed half a Nivalis, to let her wear her favorite summer pieces in colder weather. This crop top has a similar idea, one extra layer if the Dutch summer is not behaving like we would like it to. I used the Foliis pattern, omitted the hood and simply sewed down the neckline. The dress that she is wearing is a Solis that sewed last year, one of the two summer dresses from last year that still fit her. The fabric is a light weight knit sweater fabric, it is super soft.
Het eerste stuk dat ik naaide was een korte blauwe crop top met lange mouwen. Afgelopen winter heb ik een halve Nivalis genaaid, zodat ze haar favoriete zomerstukken bij kouder weer kon dragen. Deze crop top heeft een soortgelijk idee, een extra laag als de Nederlandse zomer zich niet gedraagt zoals we zouden willen. Ik gebruikte het Foliis-patroon, liet de capuchon weg en zoomde de halslijn gewoon om. De jurk die ze draagt is een Solis die ik vorig jaar naaide, een van de twee jurken die ze nog past van vorig jaar. De stof is een lichtgewicht gebreide trui, het is super zacht.
Like I wrote before, I went for quantity and I simply sewed her three tops with the same pattern, the Sylva. Two shirts with straight necklines and a tunic with the V neckline. I tried to use a lot of rather plain and uni colored fabrics in the capsule to make it easy to mix and match. To add a bit of extra fun I sewed on an application that I made years ago when I made this entire ensemble with monster fabric. With hinesight, I feel I still used to many prints and added to much color accents to for example the Sylva tunic. Creating a capsule wardrobe with prints is a skill that I have to develop more.
Zoals ik eerder schreef, ging ik voor kwantiteit en naaide ik eenvoudig drie tops met hetzelfde patroon, de Sylva. Twee shirts met rechte halslijn en een tuniek met de V-hals. Ik heb geprobeerd veel vrij simpele en effen stoffen in de capsule te gebruiken om mix en match opties te maken. Om toch het een beetje op te fleuren naaide ik op de effen blauwe Sylva een applicatie die ik jaren geleden maakte toen ik dit hele ensemble met monsterstof maakte. Achteraf gezien gebruikte ik toch te veel print en kleuraccenten. De Sylva-tuniek vind ik bijvoorbeeld eigenlijk veel te druk voor een capsule wardrobe. Ik moet duidelijk nog wat oefenen op een gebalanceerde capsule wardrobe met printjes erin.
The light blue bottom are my first attempt at designing a skort. I prefer the designs with a skirt on the front and simple short view from the back. Far from perfect, but fine for a first try. The capri trousers, I blogged before when I showed my Advena's.
Het lichtblauwe onderstuk is mijn eerste poging om een skort te ontwerpen. Ik geef de voorkeur aan de ontwerpen met een rok aan de voorzijde en een eenvoudig broekje vanaf de achterkant. Verre van perfect, maar prima voor een eerste poging. De capribroek blogde ik al over toen ik mijn Advena's liet zien.
