Foliis Release, the full trifecta

Today, the Sofilantjes'* pattern portfolio is expanding again. The name of the newest gem is The Foliis*. The pattern has three main options, cropped jacket, long jacket (tunic length) and dress. The pattern is designed for Sweat fabrics and French Terry. After I sewed the cropped and long jacket in official fabrics, I wanted to sew the last option, the dress to finish my trifecta. I was curious to see how it would look in good quality jersey and it worked perfectly. I did double the front bodice, to stabilize the zipper as much as possible. I will show you all my sews in one post, so embrace yourself for many pictures. Vanmorgen was het echt koud, nul graden. Sofilantjes* zorgt gelukkig voor extra warmte door hun nieuwste patroon, de Foliis*. De Foliis is speciaal ontworpen voor Sweat en French Terry stoffen, dus het houdt je dochter echt lekker warm. Het patroon heeft drie basis versies, een kort jasje, een lang jasje (of tuniek, het is hoe je het bekijkt) en een jurk. Nadat ik een korte en lang jasje genaaid had in de officiële stoffen ging ik voor een jurk in kwaliteitstricot. Ik dubbelde het voorpand voor extra stevigheid rond de rits en ik ben er helemaal weg van. Aan het einde van de post vind je informatie over de lanceringskorting en als je een snelle beslisser bent, dan maak je ook nog even gebruik van de Thanksgiving korting op alle patronen.

For me the most intriguing part of the pattern is the hood. I had never seen a hood like this, the pattern pieces look weird (really nothing like a standard hood). Like always, Anne turned me into a believer. The hood is designed to be extra decorative when down. The bottom of the hood is flat, which makes it lay straight on the back of the wearer. Not only the back, also the front looks extra nice compared to a regular hood. The hood actually looks like a special collar. In the dress version that I made, I even cut the fabric of the hood intentionally upside down, such that the hood, when down, looks extra awesome.

Het meest intrigerende deel van dit patroon moet de kap zijn. Ik zelf zag nog nooit zulke vreemde delen, maar zoals gewoonlijk ben ik weer onder de indruk van het eindresultaat. Door de onconventionele patroondelen ligt de kap helemaal glad op de rug, als de kap af is. De kap wordt hierdoor echt een design element van de jurk/jasje. Ook het vooraanzicht is veel mooier dan bij een standaard kap, het lijkt wel een soort sierkraag. Ik was zo fan van de kap, dat ik mijn patroondeel bij de jurkje expres onderste boven knipte, hierdoor staan de mieren rechtop als de kap op de rug hangt.

The long jacket has inseam pockets and the dress has contrasting pockets (I foresee many possible mix and match options there). I chose ladybug colors (black and red) for the pockets. The contrasting pockets both have a binding and facing, so it is a very stable pocket. The pattern includes two sleeve length, 3/4 and long. I put 3/4 sleeves on the long jacket. The length of the sleeves was shortened a bit in the final pattern. Both the cropped jacket and dress were made with long sleeves. The cropped jacket, I made during during pre-testing. I made my eldest several beautiful Sofilantjes' summer dresses, and with such a cropped jackets, you can easily get another season out of them.

Het lange jasje heeft zakken in de zijnaad en de jurk heeft contrasterende zakken (ik voorzie al veel mix en match mogelijkheden met alle Sofilantje zakken). I koos expres voor lieveheersbeestje kleuren (rood en zwart) voor de contrasterende zakken, het geeft de jurk net wat meer pit vind ik. De contrasterende zakken hebben zowel een beleg als een boordje en zijn dus heel mooi stevig. Het patroon bevat 3/4 en lange mouwen. Ik werkte met de 3/4 mouwen bij het lange jasje. In het finale patroon zijn de mouwen nog wat ingekort. Het korte jasje en jurk kregen beide lange mouwen. Ik maakte voor mijn oudste verscheidene Sofilantjes zomerjurken en met dit jasje persen we nog een seizoen uit die exemplaren.

In the official instructions, the hood lining has to be sewn to the hood by hand. Although I do not shy away from hand sewing anymore, I do try to avoid it if possible. I therefor sewed the hoods with a minimum about of handsewing, by leaving a turning hole in the lining and sewing the entire neckline on my machine. Volgens de officiële instructies naai je de voering van de kap met de hand vast. Tegenwoordig naai ik met liefde en plezier iets met de hand, maar wel alleen als het strikt noodzakelijk is. Ik ging daarom voor een iets andere constructie. Ik lied een keergat in de kap en naaide de hele halslijn in 1 keer met de machine. Ik maakte foto's tijdens het naaien van mijn tweede versie, dus ik zal jullie op korte termijn trakteren op een uitleg op de Sofilantjes' blog. Hier kan je mijn tutorial voor de aanpassingen vinden.

All the main fabrics from this post were bought at Joyfits. You could call it a coincidence, but it actually isn't. Most of my jersey fabrics are from there, so it was bound to happen. Op de stof voor zakken na, komt alle uit deze post van Joyfits. Toeval zou je zeggen, niet echt, de meeste van mijn tricot's komen van daar denk ik. Ik word altijd erg blij van de selectie en prijs.
