E+M rebranding tour

Today, I am joining in on the E+M rebranding tour. The designer of both Petitboo and E+M, Allison, has decided to combine both shops under the name Petitboo. This does not only offer you more convenience, but due to the merge there is a 50% discount on all patterns! For the tour I created an outfit for my eldest using the Violet and Flora Capri leggings. Those leggings are a free pattern on Craftsy by the way!

Vandaag zit ik in de E+M rebranding blog tour. De designer achter Petitiboo en E+M heeft besloten haar beide winkels samen te voegen onder de naam Petitboo. Hierdoor wordt niet alleen het winkelen makkelijker, er is ook nog eens een 50% korting om de samenvoeging te vieren. Voor de tour naaide ik een Violet en een Flora capri legging. Dat legging patroon is trouwens altijd gratis verkrijgbaar op Craftsy.

The Violet comes in top or dress length and I made a top. The pattern has several mix and match options and I went for a curved back and short sleeves. The pattern has a subtle gathering both at the front and the back. My hacker brain was itching though and I asked Allison if I would be allowed to make a pleat at the back. Going from gathering to pleat is super easy to implement, but in case you are wondering how to do it, I did make some process pictures.

De Violet kan je naaien in top of jurk lengte en ik ging voor de top. Er zijn verschillende mix en match opties en ik ging voor de korte mouwen versie met een ronde zoom op de rug. Het patroon heeft een subtiele rimpeling op de voorkant en achterkant. Mijn hacker brain wilde daar meteen iets mee en ik vroeg Allison of ik daar een plooi van mocht maken. Van rimpels naar plooi is heel makkelijk, maar voor het geval dat het je toch wat kopzorgen geeft, maakte ik enkele foto's.

Making a pleat is nothing more than sewing one straight line. Fold both the upper and lower pattern piece in two (or keep them folded after cutting them). Position them such that the arm sides meet. The lower piece will be longer and just mark where the upper piece ends. Sew a straight line (no stretch stitch needed) for about 2 or thee centimeter and you done. If you open your lower piece it will now be exactly the same width as your upper piece. This trick can also be used to add a pleat to a pattern that does not have one. Just put it a few centimeter from the fold when you cut the piece and sew a straight line where the fold would have been.

Het maken van een plooi is niks anders dan een klein recht stiksel maken. Om de positie te bepalen vouw je de boven en onderste delen van de pand in tweeën (of je laat ze dubbel liggen na het knippen). Vervolgens leg je ze zo dat de armsgatzijdes recht onder elkaar liggen. Het onderste gedeelte steekt nu uit aan de andere (gevouwen) kant. Zet nu een streepje waar het bovenstukje stopt. Maak daar met een gewone rechte steek (rekbare steek is echt niet nodig) een stiksel van twee tot drie centimeter. Als je het onderstuk nu opent is hij precies even lang als het bovenstukje. Dit zelfde trucje kan je ook gebruiken om een plooi te maken in patronen die het niet hebben. Leg dan het patroondeel een stukje van de stofvouw en zet je markeer streepje daar waar je patroondeel eindigt.

The pattern comes with a few suggestions on hemming the short sleeve. I went for the fold over version. This would have looked even nicer if my fabric would have been a different color on the back. I really love the small stitch that you have to make to keep the fold in place.

Het patroon komt met enkele suggesties voor voor het afwerken van (korte) mouw. Ik koos voor de omslag. Deze simpele en snelle afwerking is nog leuker als je stof aan de andere kant een contrasterende kleur heeft. Ik ben trouwens helemaal fan van dat kleine gouden stiksel dat de plooi op zijn plaats houdt.

I am on a mission to decrease my fabric stash. During the last half year I lost the weight that I gained during my pregnancies and decreasing my weight and fabric stash seem to require the same treatment. I have realized that I have a problem with control. If I eat sugar, I can not stop before I finish the bar or bag. I buy most of my fabrics online and I simply have to keep filling my cart until I (at least) reach the free shipping amount. Simply not starting the sugar or the fabric acquisition seems to work best. Sometimes I have to make an exception though, for a good chocolate or if you finally see the fabric that you have been eyeing for weeks! I bought this Nooteboom fox fabric at Textielstad, I did not see it online in their web shop yet. I of course also bought the bunny version (they did not have the dino version, else I would have bought that one for sure as well).

I doe dus een poging om die stoffenvoorraad te verkleinen. Tijdens het afgelopen half jaar ben ik het gewicht dat ik aankwam tijdens de zwangerschappen weer verloren. De methode om mijn stoffenvoorraad te verkleinen en het verliezen van gewicht is voor mij blijkbaar hetzelfde. Ik heb een probleem met mate houden. Als ik begin aan iets met suiker moet de zak of reep op. Als ik stof koop moet ik mijn karretje vullen tot ik minimaal het gratis verzenden bedrag bereikt heb. Het voorkomen van snoepen of stof kopen is dan de meeste makkelijke methode om de controle tijdens consumptie niet te verliezen. Soms moet je uitzonderingen maken, voor een heerlijke chocolade of voor een stof dat je al een lange tijd op het oog hebt. Die gouden vossen kocht ik bij Textielstad, ik zag ze daar nog niet online. Natuurlijk kocht ik ook de versie met konijnen (de dino's waren er niet, anders had ik die ook geheid gehad)

The free Flora leggings were made with one of the fabrics that I bought on a 75% sale at Joyfits last year. I bought 1.75 m and while I was cutting it, I got so excited by it that I immediately used it on two other projects as well. So, you will see more from this fabric in the coming week.  The fit of the leggings is really nice, I will probably make a few more for her. I made several short sleeved tops for my eldest lately and this capri length is great to pair them width.

De gratis Flora capri legging maakte ik met stof dat ik met 75% korting kocht in het najaar bij Joyfits. Ik kocht 1.75m en ik werd zo enthousiast tijdens het knippen dat ik de stof meteen helemaal opknipte in nog twee andere projecten. Je zal de stof dus nog twee maal voorbij zien komen de komende week. De legging zat meteen super. Ik naaide verschillende shirts met korte mouwen voor haar de laatste tijd, en deze capri lengte is echt ideaal met een lang shirt in de zomer.
