Besides posting on my own blog, in the previous months, I have also been posting on the Craftingcon blog. Today, I am bringing one of those posts home, one that fits the halloween theme. The Craftingcon blog has a different theme every month, and the dress that I am showing today, was sewn for the "anime" theme. I picked one of the most well known Japanese animation movies (and one I have actually seen), Spirited Away to base the look on.
Naast het posten op mijn eigen blog, postte ik het afgelopen half jaar ook af en toe op de Craftingcon blog en vandaag breng ik een van die blogposts naar mijn eigen blog, een blogpost die past bij halloween. Op de Craftingcon blog is er elke maand een ander thema en allerlei bloggers posten er dan hun visie op het thema. De post die ik jullie vandaag laat zien was voor het Thema "Anime". Om zeker goed te zitten koos ik een van de bekendste anime films (en een van de enige die ik zelf ook zag), Spirited Away.
The movie is
about a little girl who ends up in a world with ghosts. Those ghosts
were the inspiration for this outfit. The ghosts are black and have a
white mask for a face. Somehow the Groove
dress by Made it
patterns immediate
came to mind as the base for this garment. The pattern cover shows a
super cool black dress, so it might not be hard to imagine where my
pattern inspiration came from.
De film gaat over een klein meisje dat terecht komt in een wereld met spoken. Die spoken werden mijn inspiratiebron. De spoken zijn zwart met een wit masker. Op een of andere rede dacht ik meteen aan de Groove jurk van Made it patterns. Waarschijnlijk omdat de zwarte coverjurk me heel erg bijgebleven is.
For a while I was doubting
how to incorporate the face. For long I was planning to do a flex print
on the front, but then I got the idea to do it at the back of the hood. I
choose the high low hem version, so that meant the back was going to be
extra long. Perfect ghost material. Then I decided to just use a mask
for the shoot and keep the dress black. I started cutting the dress from
black summer sweat (bought at Joyfits) and realized there was no way
to
cut a full hood from the fabric. I had one meter and had been a bit
optimistic (who ever reads fabric requirements).
Ik twijfelde het meeste over hoe ik dat gezicht erin zou verwerken. In eerste instantie wilde ik een witte flexfolie print doen op borsthoogte aan de voorkant. Maar toen bedacht ik dat het ook wel eens heel cool zou kunnen staan op de achterkant van de kap. Toen bedacht ik me dat ik de jurk gewoon helemaal zwart zou maken en een masker zou gebruiken bij de fotoshoot. Ik begon enthousiast te knippen in mijn zwarte summer sweat (die ik kocht bij Joyfits) en hoewel ik zeer economische knipte ging het niet lukken om een complete kap uit de stof te halen. Ik had gekozen voor een high low versie en daar ging stiekem erg veel stof in zitten (waarom zou je ook lezen hoeveel stof er wordt voorgeschreven).
No problem,
enter my original plan. I pieced a hood together from black leftovers
and some silver sparkling sweat (also from Joyfits). I considered using
some white fabric, but I feared that that would result in an unwashable
garment. This silver sparkle fabric is kind a grey, so totally fine to
wash with black. I cut some flex by hand (which was actually a left over
from somebody else, that I snatched with permission on a gathering,
because I could not stand it going into the bin)
Het gebrek aan stof was geen probleem, ik gebruikte dus alsnog mijn plan om het gezicht op de achterkant van de kap te zetten. Ik was eerst van plan om witte stof te gebruiken, maar ik vreesde een onwasbaar kledingstuk te maken. Ik ging daarom voor zilveren glitter sweat (die ik vorige jaar kocht bij Joyfits). Ik knipte met de hand wat flex uit een reeds gepeld restje, iemand anders was van plan geweest om het weg te gooien, maar dat vond ik zo zonde.
My girl, who
is usually into colorful clothes, loved this addition to her wardrobe.
It was a bit warm when I sewed it, but it is perfect for this weather. My daughter was very willing to play a little
ghost for the shoot. Especially because I allowed her to put it on
backwards as well. How cool would it have been if I actually made holes
for the eyes!
Mijn dochter is gewoonlijk van kleurrijk, maar toch mocht ook deze in haar kast. Toen ik hem naaide was de jurk aan de ware kant, maar nu in de herfst is hij perfect. Tijdens de fotoshoot speelde ze met liefde en plezier voor spook. Vooral toe de jurk ook even achterstevoren aan mocht. Hoe cool zou het geweest zijn als ik gaten had gelaten voor de ogen.
