During our sewing weekend, I sewed most pieces for our eldest. She had requested a capsule wardrobe, something similar as our middle daughter got a year ago. Our eldest prefers to wear dresses though, so I had a surprisingly hard time envisioning a capsule wardrobe that would fit her personality. Tunics are not really her style and shirts with trousers neither are her first choice. I have to admit, in the end it became more quantity than quality, but in my defense, she almost had no summer clothes since she is growing extremely quickly, so a perfect balanced wardrobe will have to wait, maybe next winter.
Tijdens ons naaiweekend, naaide ik de meeste stukken voor onze oudste. Ze had om een capsule wardrobe gevraagd, iets vergelijkbaars als onze middelste dochter een jaar geleden kreeg. Onze oudste geeft echter de voorkeur aan jurken, dus ik had verrassend veel moeite om een capsule-wardrobe te bedenken die bij haar persoonlijkheid past. Tunieken zijn niet echt haar stijl en shirts met een broek zijn ook niet haar eerste keuze. Ik moet toegeven dat het uiteindelijk meer kwantiteit dan kwaliteit is geworden, maar ze dan ook eigenlijk bijna geen zomerkleding omdat ze extreem snel groeit, een perfect gebalanceerde garderobe zal moeten wachten, misschien de volgende winter.
The first piece that I sewed was a short blue crop top with long sleeves. Last winter, I sewed half a Nivalis, to let her wear her favorite summer pieces in colder weather. This crop top has a similar idea, one extra layer if the Dutch summer is not behaving like we would like it to. I used the Foliis pattern, omitted the hood and simply sewed down the neckline. The dress that she is wearing is a Solis that sewed last year, one of the two summer dresses from last year that still fit her. The fabric is a light weight knit sweater fabric, it is super soft.
Het eerste stuk dat ik naaide was een korte blauwe crop top met lange mouwen. Afgelopen winter heb ik een halve Nivalis genaaid, zodat ze haar favoriete zomerstukken bij kouder weer kon dragen. Deze crop top heeft een soortgelijk idee, een extra laag als de Nederlandse zomer zich niet gedraagt zoals we zouden willen. Ik gebruikte het Foliis-patroon, liet de capuchon weg en zoomde de halslijn gewoon om. De jurk die ze draagt is een Solis die ik vorig jaar naaide, een van de twee jurken die ze nog past van vorig jaar. De stof is een lichtgewicht gebreide trui, het is super zacht.
Like I wrote before, I went for quantity and I simply sewed her three tops with the same pattern, the Sylva. Two shirts with straight necklines and a tunic with the V neckline. I tried to use a lot of rather plain and uni colored fabrics in the capsule to make it easy to mix and match. To add a bit of extra fun I sewed on an application that I made years ago when I made this entire ensemble with monster fabric. With hinesight, I feel I still used to many prints and added to much color accents to for example the Sylva tunic. Creating a capsule wardrobe with prints is a skill that I have to develop more.
Zoals ik eerder schreef, ging ik voor kwantiteit en naaide ik eenvoudig drie tops met hetzelfde patroon, de Sylva. Twee shirts met rechte halslijn en een tuniek met de V-hals. Ik heb geprobeerd veel vrij simpele en effen stoffen in de capsule te gebruiken om mix en match opties te maken. Om toch het een beetje op te fleuren naaide ik op de effen blauwe Sylva een applicatie die ik jaren geleden maakte toen ik dit hele ensemble met monsterstof maakte. Achteraf gezien gebruikte ik toch te veel print en kleuraccenten. De Sylva-tuniek vind ik bijvoorbeeld eigenlijk veel te druk voor een capsule wardrobe. Ik moet duidelijk nog wat oefenen op een gebalanceerde capsule wardrobe met printjes erin.
The light blue bottom are my first attempt at designing a skort. I prefer the designs with a skirt on the front and simple short view from the back. Far from perfect, but fine for a first try. The capri trousers, I blogged before when I showed my Advena's.
Het lichtblauwe onderstuk is mijn eerste poging om een skort te ontwerpen. Ik geef de voorkeur aan de ontwerpen met een rok aan de voorzijde en een eenvoudig broekje vanaf de achterkant. Verre van perfect, maar prima voor een eerste poging. De capribroek blogde ik al over toen ik mijn Advena's liet zien.
Two more weeks and then the summer holiday is already over for our kids, then it is back to school. Although many other kids have more weeks of holiday in front of them, in a month from now all kids will be back in school. Kids often seem to grow a few inches over the summer and the moment that school starts is the moment that we as parents realize that our kids seem to have outgrown most of their clothes. Kinderen lijken in de zomer vaak een paar centimeter te groeien en het moment dat de school begint, is het moment waarop ouders beseffen dat onze kinderen uit het grootste deel van hun kleren zijn gegroeid. I already sewed many Bella Sunshine patterns in the past and because I wanted to show you a new angle, I went for an all knit mini capsule. In contrast to my usual deadline behavior, I actually finished this capsule a month ago! I did so because we went on a cruise and we wanted to pack light, a mini capsule is perfect for that. The entire thing turned out to be such a success that of course the rest now want their own capsules.
Ik naaide al veel Bella Sunshine-patronen en omdat ik toch iets nieuws wilde laten zien, ging ik voor een minicapsule in tricot. In tegenstelling tot mijn gebruikelijke deadline gedrag, had ik deze capsule al een maand geleden af! Ik deed het omdat we op een cruise gingen en we licht wilden reizen, een minicapsule is daar perfect voor. De capsule bleek zo'n succes dat de rest natuurlijk nu ook hun eigen capsules wil.
Our capsule consists of eight pieces, four tops and four bottoms that all can be combined. I picked a color scheme that I know our middle daughter loves and tried to use several uni colored fabrics to facilitate all mix and match options without being boring. I did a few hacks and used six patterns, of which one of them is the free Reagan raglan.
Deze capsule bestaat uit acht stukken, vier tops en vier onderstukken die allemaal kunnen worden gecombineerd. Ik koos een kleurenschema waar onze middelste dochter dol op is en probeerde verschillende unikleurige stoffen te gebruiken om alle mix- en matchopties te faciliteren zonder saai te zijn. Ik deed een paar hacks en gebruikte zes patronen, waarvan één de gratis Reagan raglan is.
Let's start with that Reagan raglan. I had not sewed the kid version* yet but I have worn my own dress versions a lot. To show of the raglan lines I used two different blues and to decorate the shirt we ironed on a Rhinestone beaver. Beavers are her favorite animals and when I bought my first Rhinestones a few weeks ago, she immediately asked me to create a beaver pattern and she placed all the stones herself. The shirt can of course be combined with any of the bottoms, but when it is combined with the circle skirt, the one that I hacked from the Sahara the outfit looks like a dress.
Laten we beginnen met die Reagan raglan. Ik had de kinderversie* nog niet genaaid, maar ik heb mijn eigen jurkversies vaak gedragen. Om de raglanlijnen te benadrukken heb ik twee verschillende blauws gebruikt en om het shirt te versieren streek ik er een Rhinestone-bever op. Bevers zijn haar favoriete dieren en toen ik een paar weken geleden mijn eerste steentjes kocht, vroeg ze me onmiddellijk om een beverspatroon te maken en ze plaatste alle stenen zelf. Het shirt kan natuurlijk worden gecombineerd met elk van de onderstukken, maar als het wordt gecombineerd met de cirkelrok, degene die ik uit de Sahara heb gehackt, ziet de outfit eruit als een jurk
A few months ago, during a Bella sunshine Sunday sale, I pronounced my love for the Amelia*, so it had to be part of the capsule. I really like the way that the band can be used to create an interesting contrast. I made a tunic length in uni colored mint jersey and made the garment spicy by adding a striped band.
Een paar maanden geleden, tijdens een Bella sunshine Sunday sale, sprak ik mijn liefde uit voor de Amelia*, dus die moest een deel worden van de capsule. Ik hou echt van de manier waarop de band kan worden gebruikt om een interessant contrast te creëren. Ik maakte een tunieklengte in unikleurige mint jersey en maakte het kledingstuk interessant door een gestreepte band toe te voegen.
During another Sunshine sale I made the Josephine* and I just love cap sleeves. So, I made a reversible shirt Josephine. Pink on one side and yellow stripes on the other. A truly versatile piece in a capsule. It was a rather easy hack, I simply used the Reagan raglan to determine the length of the shirt. The Josephine has a wide boat neck that is pretty similar on the front and the back (when you ignore that the back has seam allowance to accommodate a zipper) so I cut the front twice actually four times if you count the lining). The shirt is therefore also reversible in the way that the front and back are the same.
Tijdens een andere Bella sunshine Sunday sale heb ik de Josephine* gemaakt en ik ben gek op zulke kapmouwen. Dus ik maakte een omkeerbaar shirt van het Josephine patroon. Roze aan de ene kant en gele strepen aan de andere kant. Een echt veelzijdig stuk in een capsule. Het was een vrij gemakkelijke hack, ik gebruikte gewoon de Reagan raglan om de lengte van het shirt te bepalen. De Josephine heeft een brede boothals die aan de voor- en achterkant vrij gelijk is (als je negeert dat de achterkant een naadtoeslag heeft voor een ritssluiting). Ik knipte de voorkant twee keer (vier keer als je de voering meetelt). Het shirt is daarom dubbel omkeerbaar omdat ook de voor- en achterkant hetzelfde zijn.
A Sahara* top could neither not miss from our Bella sunshine mini capsule. I have made several already and they are all worn with much joy. The first Sahara that I made had a different fabric for the bodice than the skirt because I sewed it from two small fabric remnants. I still am so satisfied with that contrast that I again went for a different printed skirt. I made a pair of bow tie leggings in the same color as the top such that it looks like a jumpsuit when the leggings and top are combined. You can create the same look by cutting off a pair of Eden leggings* (which is free if you are a Facebook member of the Bella Sunshine group).
Een Sahara-top* kon natuurlijk ook niet missen van onze Bella sunshine mini-capsule. Ik heb er al verschillende gemaakt en ze worden allemaal met veel plezier gedragen. De eerste Sahara die ik maakte had een andere print voor het lijfje dan de rok omdat ik die naaide van twee stof resten. Ik ben nog steeds zo tevreden over dat contrast dat ik opnieuw voor een andere bedrukte rok heb gekozen. Ik heb een paar bow tie leggings gemaakt in dezelfde kleur als de bovenkant van de Sahara, zodat het lijkt op een jumpsuit als de legging en de top gecombineerd zijn. Als alternatief kan je daar ook de gratis Eden leggings* voor gebruiken natuurlijk.
The last pattern that I used, is the Tess Tulip shorts*, which was the only pattern that I had not sewn yet. The pattern is intended for wovens, but I made it in knits and it worked perfectly. I cut is one size smaller and put elastic through the entire waistband, not just the back. The Tess comes in two lengths and the light blue version that I made is the shorter length. The green shorts are the longer length and another small hack, I simply left off the front "petals" from the tulip. Neither of the shorts are lined. Because jersey is a bit thicker than cotton, I did not dare to put pockets on the full petal version, but I did put them in the greenish one.
Het laatste patroon dat ik heb gebruikt, is de Tess Tulip shorts*, het enige patroon dat ik nog niet had genaaid. Het patroon is bedoeld voor geweven stoffen, maar ik heb het in tricot gemaakt en het ging perfect. Ik knipte een maat kleiner en deed elastiek door de hele tailleband, niet alleen de achterkant. De Tess komt in twee lengtes en de lichtblauwe versie die ik heb gemaakt is de kortere lengte. De groene versie is de wat langere lengte en een extra kleine hack, ik liet de "bloemblaadjes" weg van de voorkant. Geen van de broekjes is gevoerd. Omdat jersey iets dikker is dan katoen, durfde ik geen zakken op de volledige te plaatsen, maar ik heb deed wel zakken in de groene versie.
